About LEPC

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is a federally mandated entity composed of state and local officials, business representatives, members of the press, and community groups. Under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), LEPCs must develop an emergency response plan, review the plan at least annually, and provide information about chemicals in the community to citizens.

Purpose

The purpose of the Pope County LEPC is to enhance Pope County's preparedness and response to hazardous materials incidents and other hazards by involving the government, private business, nonprofit organizations, and citizens in planning and preparing for such incident

The Pope County LEPC will also act as an advisory committee to the Prince George's County Government in regards to emergency preparedness and response for hazardous materials and will fulfill any and all additional requirements articulated under the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act ("EPCRA").

Members

Membership in the Pope County LEPC is open to individuals who have an interest in emergency preparedness. The following representatives must be present in the Pope County LEPC:

  • Elected State and Local Officials
  • Law Enforcement
  • Firefighting Agencies
  • Broadcast and Print Media
  • Hospital
  • EMS Personnel
  • Health Personnel
  • Public Works
  • School Representatives
  • Utilities
  • Owners and Operators of Facilities subject to EPCRA requirements.
